Reach Relevance Impact

Reach.  Relevance.  Impact.

Just before the entire Columbia, South Carolina airport power went out, I was filming a one-take-You Tube video of another airport hallway billboard sign.

Had the power not gone off, I would have finished the one-take-You Tube video with, “What I am trying to do is expand my reach, relevance and impact.”

I mean, who doesn’t want to do that?

Or maybe, it’s just crazy talk, or inappropriate, to think that one person might start something that could help make the world a better place.

You Mean He Just…

“You mean he just decided to ride his bike across the country by himself?”, my wife’s friend asked her recently.

Well, not exactly. In fact, not even close. The idea of a cross-country bicycle trip had been with me since 1973.  The actual trip began nearly a decade later.  So, no, I didn’t just decide.

It was more like a dream seed that was planted while on a three-week Boy Scout bus trip across the United States.  From Pennsylvania to northern Idaho and back.  A week out, a week there, a week back.

It was while crossing the Colorado Rocky Mountains when the dream seed was planted.

Out our chartered bus window, on our way across the continental divide (elevation some 10,000 feet) I saw three cyclists at about 8,000 feet on their way to the summit.

Their bicycles were loaded down with saddlebags full of camping gear, tents, sleeping bags.  They appeared to be taking a break from their long climb, enjoying a snack and the spectacular scenery.

We sat on a bus, were young teens, and at the mercy of the bus schedule.

They were late teens, early twenties, sitting on bicycles, stopping when ever and where ever they wanted, for as long as they wanted.

To be able to not only see the majestic Rocky Mountains from that height, but to smell them, touch them, hear them….

How Cold Is It?

Freezing Cold
Freezing Cold

Weather.com says the current Anchorage, Alaska temp is  (4AM) 19 degrees, but the official “feels like” temp is 12 degrees.

Hope your day is full of warmth, no matter the outside temperature.  Carpe diem.

North, To Alaska?

North, to Alaska? Soon. But not today.

Today, we’ll enjoy the warm Central Florida sunshine and a high temperature of 86 degrees.

Yesterday, we visited the Walt Disney World Resort’s Magic Kingdom.

Today starts with Church, where my wife and I will lead Children’s Liturgy of the Word for our Church’s elementary school children.  Then I have a meeting with a writer.

Then south, back home.  Enjoy your day.  And keep an eye on the future.  It’s just around the corner, a little north of today.

Not Enough Time In The Day

It’s an old cliche, “There’s not enough time in the day”.

Amen.

Why?  Not sure.  It’s one of life’s big mysteries.

There are people, wise people indeed, who have figured out how to live without many things that you and I think are essential to happiness.

How did they do it?  What do they know that we don’t?
