The clock to 60 is ticking louder

The clock to 60 years old is ticking louder.

Two days ago my son and i had a deep conversation about friends. He struggles to make new friends at school. And school isn’t structured to facilitate social interaction. This is typical when you are a brand new freshman and not involved in extracurricular activities.

Told him if you die with five really good friends you are a rich man.

On yesterday’s run i decided near the end that when i got home i was going to reduce my friends on Facebook. Went from 414  to 257. The goal is 200. For now.

The criteria? Would i go to their funeral and/or share with the family something special about our relationship? A yes for nearly everyone.

Criteria two? Would the friend reciprocate? Right, wrong or indifferent, that’s what i used.

Inspiration From Email?

Pretty Flowers
Pretty Flowers

I’m “off” today and spending a little time on enhancing the whole social networking thing. Here’s a second jeff noel blog post for today, inspired by my reply to an email I received ten minutes ago:

Just this morning, when our son’s third-grade teacher asked me how I was doing and I said, “Excellent!”, I followed up with her, to be clear, by saying, “I have the weight of the world on my shoulders like everyone else, but I’m not going to let in interfere with my day.”

Pick any one my five daily blogs, read about 10-15 posts, and then tell me it can’t help you if you made reading it (them) the same habit I make writing it (them).

Or, you can do what you always do.

By the way, I have been involved in a career, with the same organization, for 26 years.  Did you catch that?  The same organization.

Seriously, you would think that blogging is my job.  It’s not.  It’s a newly (a year ago) discovered tool to help me become a world-class Dad.

Whatever you choose, may all the blessings and success you deserve, come your way.

Facebook Privacy

What The?
What The?

Facebook.

Privacy.

Social norms.

Founder, CEO, Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook claims Privacy is no longer a social norm.

He’s right, but people older than 30 have their heads in the sand.  If you are an entrepreneur, I’d read this article, reflect on it and figure out a way to stay current.

This issue opportunity is changing the Internet, which changes everything else.

LinkedIn Out Of Nowhere

A recent email immediately gave me an idea for a blog post.  And the email was triggered by a LinkedIn contact.

LinkedIn is designed primarily as a professional, business-like social network.

Think of it this way:

  • My Space = your bedroom
  • Facebook = your living room
  • LinkedIn = your office

LinkedIn mostly is a social network where business professionals can share how smart they are.  You know, posting their resume for the entire world to see.

And this is powerful because LinkedIn has something like 40+ million users and is reported to grow to 200-300 million “soon”.

Those who know me well, know that I’m as focused and disciplined as they come.  And I can dress up in a suit and look like I run the joint. But I prefer cut-off jean shorts and barefeet.

Don’t believe me, check out my LinkedIn profile.  It ain’t your typical “I’m so smart, I’m so smart. I’m so smart” resume. Mostly, because, well, honestly, I’m not the brightest bulb in the box.

Anyway, I use LinkedIn as a micro-blog. Every day posting a new status update.  Today’s was simply, Jeff Noel doesn’t think you’ve been to this blog yet: https://jeffnoel.org It’s a dot org
