It takes a village

Serendipitous that Deb would cross our path as we departed.
Candid.
Officially graduated.

It takes a village.

Perhaps the most impressive feature of WPS is how focused the school’s leadership team is in pursuing excellence.

They were a perfect catch for Nord Anglia Education – the Ivy League of International High Schools.

Son, you got to experience something rare.

What a privilege for us to have it at our doorstep for the past four years.

Ended it where it began

Yesterday i ended where i began – sitting on the bench outside the High School office overlooking the courtyard.
“My bench” as i affectionally named it freshman year (2015).

Yesterday, ended it where it began.

The first month of our Son’s High School freshman year something happened.

He (we) found himself with the discovery that making friends with people you didn’t grow up with was harder than it looked.

One of the things i did was arrive 30-60 minutes earlier than our scheduled daily pickup time.

i’d sit outside the High School counselor’s office and watch the world go by.

It was an attempt to familiarize myself with the “landscape” of after-school karma.

In hindsight, my new business (post Disney career) was slow and i had discretionary time.

Bottom line, the time on that bench was valuable because i met many teachers and staff and built relationships with them, becoming an after school fixture, a familiar face, an involved (concerned) parent.

One of the best investments a parent could ever make.

Ms Emily Tousek, IB Music Teacher, among many other talents at Windermere Preparatory School.
Three years ago Roderick couldn’t speak English.
The WPS Seniors that were honored last night.
The school hosts many International boarding students.

When you least expect it, Magic happens.

Had no idea our Son was recieving a perfroming arts/IB Music award.

The community inside the WPS Performing Arts is heartwarming.

Son, what a wonderway way to finish strong, on top of your stellar academic performance. Your self-driven and self-guided high School career has been exceptional. Your growth, transformational.

Your teachers guided and taught you. You did all the work to apply it.

Organized for the last 9 hugs

LinkedIn direct message
Because of my Disney association, i cross paths with many people and speak with many of them. Here’s a screen shot to capture a small moment in time last night. My message to Rafik is un-noteworthy. Rafik’s, on the other hand, is enlightening – he still remarks about “going the extra inch”.

Organized for the last 9 hugs.

We have five days next week, and four days your final High School week – the fifth day that second week there’s no school because of the evening graduation ceremony. So, nine hugs remaining.

Son, the few seconds it takes us to engage in an after school hug is perhaps the greatest of all the extra inches we could do.

Remember, we never let what we couldn’t do (something that required much more time and much greater effort to be memorable) stop us from what we can do.

Remember your High School Prom?

Disney Keynote Speaker
Ty spent an hour in the office and took 100 photos, hoping to get three that would be headshot-worthy.

Remember your High School Prom?

Windermere Prep’s prom is tonight.

Afterward, six college-bound 18-year-olds will spend the night at our house.

My wife has organized enough details to ensure the teens enjoy themselves with little hassle.

And there is enough winter firewood left for one more campfire, even though today is April 6.

The last campfire i made, i intentionally stopped to conservve enough wood for one more fire.
