Does it even matter?

Disney Keynote Speaker
Walked Disney California Adventure at 7am and then walked to Disneyland prior to it’s 8am opening.

March 21 as this is written. June 21 as it goes public. Happy Summer Solstice. Here’s to hoping this is your best Summer ever.

Back to today, March 21. In 10 days the sixth year of daily blogging ends and the seventh year begins.

There’s an almost universal misunderstanding about the daily blogging. And after 11,000 blog posts, it long ago became something to accept and not worry about.

And here’s the crazy part – the writing isn’t one daily blog post for nearly every day of the year.

It’s every single day, without exception.

It’s 2,191 days in a row.

Unbelievable, until it’s not.

And it’s five differently-themed posts a day on five differently-themed websites.

Insane? For sure. Does it matter? Only to this person.

Organized for double dipping?

We talked about it mid-trip, the notion of visiting Land and World on the same day. On the final day (yesterday, March 9) flying from Los Angeles to Orlando we semi-committed to doing it. On the drive home from the airport we decided to go for it.

Are we organized enough to design a meaningful culture?

EPCOT's World Showcase Promenade.
Walt Disney drew the first notion of “EPCOT” on a cocktail napkin. Is this relevant to employees?

Are we organized enough to find time:

  • To recognize something as significant
  • To add it in one of three big buckets: past, present, or future
  • To remember milestone dates
  • To evaluate the the value of a milestone
  • To decide which milestones to keep and which to discard
  • To prioritize milestones and their impact on your culture

Yesterday, January 24, 2015 was the second anniversary of a tragic moment for a friend and co-worker. Why significant? In 55 years, it was the first time personally knowing a suicide victim. It was the place, method and motive that made the world stop turning that morning at 8:47am.

Similiar in shock effect to September 11, 2001.

The days are long, and great

Laptop security

(photo: One laptop is always locked with a cable. One rarely is. Big difference in their commitment to being intentional.)

Does the word and behavior, intentional, mean anything to you?

Today, he will tell a few more people, if his schedule is organized enough.

Is his list organized by some sort of priority?

The ability to look back, look forward – and enjoy them both

Giraffes
Looking ahead, looking back – simultaneously

Yesterday came and went in the blink of an eye. Like they all do.

The paradox of writing 100 days ahead?

Seeing the momentous once-in-a-life occasions mixed with the yearly seasonal milestones:

  • Tomorrow is the Summer Solstice (again) – June 21.
  • Yesterday was the 30th anniversary of beginning a full time Disney Career – September 27.

Digging the ability to look back, look forward – and enjoy them both right here, right now.
