Her fee, based on my publicly posted fees, is ridiculously low.

For others, her fee is perfect.

Bottomline, i should walk away, yet remain grateful for her inquiry.

What i see is the potential to “interview” her (for four days) as a future business partner. Her expertise is logistics and local connections.

This would blend nicely with what i have no desire to learn nor master.

PS. We have known each other since 1999 when i met her while she was Disney Institute’s Business Program’s open enrollment/reservations leader.

High School Baseball field — Field of dreams?

Editor’s comment: this is written for an audience of one, me. If it resonates (or makes you feel uncomfortable), perfect. That’s exactly why i write these blogs to myself (and our Son, for future use)…

Where is our field of dreams?

Since 2000, i’ve become clear about the habitual pattern for using distractions, medications, and entertainment to manage the pain we experience from our unfulfilled promises to ourselves.

Yes, i think we all do it…

Medicate, distract, and entertain ourselves into a pleasurable state to avoid the pain from still secretly holding onto big dreams we have no intentions of fulfilling.

Yeah, it’s tough being an adult.

Giving up alcohol 15 years ago and caffeine one year ago have facilitated incredible focus on the obvious.

Achieving our crazy dreams require us to rethink, reprioritize, and recommit.

The long way is the short cut.

Did i have four hours to spare?

Disney Conference Keynote Speakers — Our School isn’t far from here. Two miles as the crow flies.

It cost me four hours two days ago. Yesterday though, i was struck by how grateful the staff was by my attendance. The zoning board unanimously approved the variance request for our High School’s proposed Visual and Performing Arts building.

There was serious opposition.

Did i have four hours to spare?

No.

Then why do it?

School relationships are a priority because our freshman will become a man on that campus.

There are things that can be measured that don’t matter.

There are things that matter that can’t be measured.

That’s why i attended.

How could i not?

The school’s future hinged on the zoning variance for a new Visual and Performing Arts building that will facilitate a relationship with Julliard.

Telling the truth is art.

On the way home from the public hearing yesterday, a Consultant friend (and former Disney colleague) called asking for advice. i pulled over and enabled hands-free conversation and then resumed the drive on Interstate 4.

One of the things Betsy said she counts on from me is that she always knows i will tell the truth. She really needs the truth as she is about to make life-altering decisions. Decisions that are not easy, and that don’t come with any guarantee.

Two million things we need to manage

Along with the million things we have to do to be vibrant, productive members of society is another million little things like ordering more printer ink – for the backup printer.

Yes, backup printer.

The main printer subscribes to HP’s ink replacement membership. HP (by wirelessly tracking ink levels) sends new cartridges just before you need them. There is a monthly membership fee, but an unlimited amount of ink they will send (at no additional charge).
