Gone are the bucket brigades. The fire hydrant revolutionized fire protection. And then rather than make a better hydrant, others thought about prevention versus “cure”. Safer building materials, building codes and inspections. Smoke detectors.
Rather than move from reactive to proactive, some continued thinking about the “cure”: sprinklers, fire extinguishers, better alarms. Faster trucks.
