Traveling to a new foreign land today

Random shot yesterday. Symbolic?

Traveling to a new foreign land for the first time ever this morning at 11:00am…High School orientation.

This will require a new level of being organized.

Having a decent organizational base from which to build new processes is critical for elevated degrees of success.

Getting ready to hang on for the ride of a lifetime…keeping a high schooler safe (mentally, physically, and spiritually) while simultaneously relinquishing control.

Stuck, then suddenly not

Relaxing on a pool raft
Love being able to do this on weekdays, while most others are racing to work.

Making progress is probably the most motivating thing there is, especially when you’ve been stuck for longer than you thought was reasonable.

While working on a Saturday afternoon (yesterday) and into the night shouldn’t happen, i’m grateful that when inspiration struck, i was organized enough to go with it.

Ten left

Floating in a pool raft near Disney World
Our pool a few mornings ago. The epitome of retirement living?

We are all weird. What with our idiosyncrasies. Some of which we are proud of. Others we feel a slave to.

In 2008, at 49, with a 50th birthday more than half a year away, i envisioned a 10-year plan to commence on my 50th birthday: five more years at Disney (for a total of 30), and five years to put a dent in the Universe.

No male on my dad’s side has made it past 60.

This morning i caught myself feeling like i am taking for granted the 3.6 years remaining (until 60).

Important note: Jack Noel lived to be 67. Early onset, rapid-progression Alzheimer’s Disease stole his cognitive abilities by the time he was 60.

It was weird to share this word with the CPA

Golds Gym sign
It’s simple, put stuff back where you found it. yet some don’t or can’t. Why?

One of the reasons the CPA and i spoke for two hours is because i’m a relationship person. Nothing is more important than trust.

Our conversation began with me asking him to tell me how he got into the business.

Later, i shared that my “word for 2015” is lean.

Simple, direct, light.

Portable, flexible.

Nimble.

Powerful.

Being decently organized helps this vision.

Being unorganized does not.

Yet we’re too busy to change.

Being organized is not meant to create perfection

Child and teddy bears
2005

He turned 15 yesterday. A surprise Disney Cruise was planned with his mother since his dad was going to be in France.

A broken toe, and surgery, cancelled the trip he knew nothing of.

We are organized enough to postpone something remarkable for a later time.

Being organized helps us manage the (consistent) things that we cannot plan for.
