Not only is technology cool, but so is initiative.

Through a Disney College Program Alumni Association, Stephanie asked for the opportunity to speak with me and ask questions. Neither of us knew it would last an hour.

Stephanie earned more time simply because she exceeded my expectations. She took the initiative (which was neither a requirement nor an expectation) to do some investigating (research) on the person she wanted to learn from.

Stephanie asked great questions.

She also revealed late in the conversation (which also exceeded expectations, because she never led with it to impress me) that she read 50 posts each on all five blogs (250 posts).

Wow.

She learned, eventually, how to use the easy hyperlinks to navigate from one website to the next. But that’s a story for another time.

She also ordered my book.

Initiative is difficult to hide.

Lack of initiative is also difficult to hide.

i talk to many ambitious people who are in the early stages of their career. Almost without exception, they ask without giving.

Stephanie stood out because she was a giver first.

On April Fool’s Day 2009, jeff noel began writing five daily, differently-themed blogs (on five different sites). It was to be a 100-day self-imposed “writer’s bootcamp”, in preparation for writing his first book. He hasn’t missed a single day since.

i am keenly reminded why this journey to be ‘free’ is critical

i am keenly reminded why this journey to be ‘free’ is critical.

Working from anywhere, anytime.

Able to stop working anywhere, at any time.

Balance.

Peace.

This is my life as we speak (as i type in the surgical waiting room at York Hospital).

The gauntlet called daily life

The gauntlet called daily life.

It never lets up.

Best to learn how to thrive in spite of the heat.

Simplicity is operational genius

Simplicity is operational genius.

At work and at home.

The older i get, the clearer this becomes.

Right this very moment, think about how overwhelmed you are.

This is why.

Disney taught me balance is essential at work

Best Disney Institute Keynote Speakers
Without a home screen like this one, there no way to know who’s phone it is should it ever become lost.

Disney taught me balance is essential at work:

1. Leaders
2. Employees
3 Customers
4. Reputation (brand)
5. Improvement (innovation)

After two decades of not being able to find a personal role model there, i spent my final decade figuring it out on my own.

1. Mind
2. Body
3. Spirit
4. Work
5. Home

Personal leadership BFO (blinding flash of the obvious):

Life is hard.

If we can’t lead ourselves well, odds are low we’ll be able to lead others well.

What if hearing your alarm clock go off this morning sounded like music to your ears?

Balance is not a myth.
