Thanks for your trademark enthusiasm

Glacier National Park
Grinnell Glacier hike…taken with iPhone.

(Word for word, my email response to a Disney colleague who’s joining me on a Glacier trip…)

Dude, other than Alaska, this may be America’s most natural, unspoiled land.

One million acres, 734 miles of trail, 300 Grizzlies.

Forgot to tell you not to worry about seating…hope you got aisle or whatever you like.

Also forgot, on the flight into Kalispell, i ALWAYs aim for a window seat on the right side (away from the wing)…on a clear day, you get an advance look at the place.

Thanks for your trademark enthusiasm.

What will be the key take-aways?

Grand Classroom sample agenda
A jam-packed four-day agenda for 58 high school freshman.

i never went on an overnight school trip.

A three-week cross Country Boy Scout bus and camping trip as a 12-year old that changed my life.

But at school, never anything more than a day trip.

Last year as an 8th grader his small class went to San Francisco and surrounding areas. Same class went to Manhattan the year before that.

Traveling expands our horizons figuratively and literally. The next three years will be the prime time to travel with a developing teen.

But will i be organized enough to fit it in when the world is trying to convince me otherwise?

On April Fool’s Day 2009, jeff noel began writing five daily, differently-themed blogs (on five different sites). It was to be a 100-day self-imposed “writer’s bootcamp”, in preparation for writing his first book. He hasn’t missed a single day since.

The two big goals of parenting

WPS on Twitter
Hoping there will be decent social media coverage.

Need to be at Orlando Airport by 6:30am tomorrow. Six faculty and 54 ninth graders (out of approx 130) are heading to Washington DC for their annual school trip.

Give them roots.

Give them wings.

Interesting to ponder why well under half the students will not be traveling.

Drive to airport at 5:15am, Derby party by 5:15pm

He (14) was decently organized and began packing two days prior to yesterday’s 5:15am departure from home. So at 4:30am it was easy to jump in the shower and then grab his roller bag and small (and light) backpack.

Packing for middle school class trip
Visually seeing what you need is easier with a simple process.

Photo below is at 6:15am. All accounted for and ready to check luggage and head for breakfast. Only one student is missing – unable to attend. Up next? Eight days in California.

Later in the day, after a nap, we transitioned to a 23-year neighborhood tradition at Mikki and Joel’s amazingly casual, elegantly refreshing Florida home.

Almost race time.

It was the final neighborhood Derby party. Their home is for sale and they’re moving to the beach.
