What if?

High School Baseball field
Field of dreams?

Editor’s comment: this is written for an audience of one, me. If it resonates (or makes you feel uncomfortable), perfect. That’s exactly why i write these blogs to myself (and our Son, for future use)…

Where is our field of dreams?

Since 2000, i’ve become clear about the habitual pattern for using distractions, medications, and entertainment to manage the pain we experience from our unfulfilled promises to ourselves.

Yes, i think we all do it…

Medicate, distract, and entertain ourselves into a pleasurable state to avoid the pain from still secretly holding onto big dreams we have no intentions of fulfilling.

Yeah, it’s tough being an adult.

Giving up alcohol 15 years ago and caffeine one year ago have facilitated incredible focus on the obvious.

Achieving our crazy dreams require us to rethink, reprioritize, and recommit.

The long way is the short cut.

On April Fool’s Day 2009, jeff noel began writing five daily, differently-themed blogs (on five different sites). It was to be a 100-day self-imposed “writer’s bootcamp”, in preparation for writing his first book. He hasn’t missed a single day since.

Good morning first day of 2016, i’m dying

Good morning 2016, i’m dying.

Did he just say that?

Yep.

i’m dying.

Here’s the thing, we are all dying.

Few of us are preparing for it.

In 2008-2009, i started to ask myself, “Why?”

The buzz that many had last night from alcohol pales in comparison to the buzz i get from living without regret, living with peace and contentment, living with constant gratitude.

Lived with the first (alcohol) for about 28 years. Living with the second (no alcohol) for 15 years now.

Yes, this is an expert opinion.

Live like you mean it

Apple is the reining Olympic champion for uncharted territory.

Live like you mean it.

Was recently told, in a non-flattering tone, that i live each day like it’s my last.

No one really knows how this is supposed to work because it’s similar to being family with an astronaut – most of us aren’t.

It’s pioneering work, pressing the limits of what’s possible – uncharted territory as it were.

Ten left

Floating in a pool raft near Disney World
Our pool a few mornings ago. The epitome of retirement living?

We are all weird. What with our idiosyncrasies. Some of which we are proud of. Others we feel a slave to.

In 2008, at 49, with a 50th birthday more than half a year away, i envisioned a 10-year plan to commence on my 50th birthday: five more years at Disney (for a total of 30), and five years to put a dent in the Universe.

No male on my dad’s side has made it past 60.

This morning i caught myself feeling like i am taking for granted the 3.6 years remaining (until 60).

Important note: Jack Noel lived to be 67. Early onset, rapid-progression Alzheimer’s Disease stole his cognitive abilities by the time he was 60.
