Mistakes layer my foundation

Southwest Airlines aisle seat
Client texted to ask if i got a good seat for the flight home. i responded with this photo.

Writing about my high personal expectations and the ability to consistently deliver on those is not boastful, although it feels that way.

What’s critical to remember is that the way i got so good at what i do is because i’ve made more mistakes than anyone else.

As sales pitches go, i’d say yesterday’s (first one ever) was packed with more “i’ll never do that again” than it was with “that worked brilliantly”.

On April Fool’s Day 2009, jeff noel began writing five daily, differently-themed blogs (on five different sites). It was to be a 100-day self-imposed “writer’s bootcamp”, in preparation for writing his first book. He hasn’t missed a single day since.

calling AAA after accident
Accident happened at 5:43pm. First call, after Chris and i exchanged insurance information, lasted nearly nine minutes. Tow truck arrived after sunset.

We watched, in the correct order, the final three Star Wars episodes Thursday, Friday, and yesterday (Saturday).

When offered, he accepted the opportunity (with only an hour before showtime) to go see The Force Awakens (episode seven).

The transformation of Downtown Disney (which i knew like the back on my hand) to Disney Springs caught me off guard when the normal parking option was cut off.

In roughly three seconds of looking left to quickly assess the situation as we drove up the off ramp to the parking garage, it was too late to avoid a rear-end collision.

Taking solace in being a rare, speed-limit driver. The exit ramp was long and uphill, allowing for a gradual and natural deceleration.

Those two factors greatly reduced the severity of the impact.

Life is brutal

Canadian Rockies
Frozen wilderness is one of the most brutal (Canadian Rockies)

Life is brutal.

Deadlines. Pressure.

Lack of deadlines. Ambiguity.

Priorities. Competing.

Fear…

Our fear isn’t in failing.

Seriously, it’s not.

And we should embrace our fear.

We see it clearly when we see what our real fear should be.

What if our real fear was in not learning from the constant pressure and ambiguity?

And then repeating the same, insidiously fearful cycle.

Would we have conquered fear if we had harnessed our fear and the ambiguity?

Crossing our fingers is not an effective strategy for making things happen

Easily Amused Wordcamp sponsor thank you
Meeting with James Tryon, founder, tomorrow

So nervous (not really) about the printer potentially messing up (layman’s term) the book design a second time.

Have worked so hard on the backend (my end) to simply hand the book publisher everything they need – to the point where they literally don’t have to lift a finger.

Finger’s crossed anyway.

Short and pithy blog posts can slip away even when you try not to let them

simple or complex
simple and easy… or bulky and complicated? No brainer, eh?

Short and pithy blog posts can slip away even when you try not to let them. A promise is a promise. There is an exception to every rule. Life goes on…

How was that? Toughest thing is to say a lot without saying a lot.

This month I’m inviting the Mid Life Celebration community to follow all five daily blogs about work life balance. It couldn’t be easier to go from this HQ blog to the mental attitude blog , just click -> go to Next Blog
