Guessing i don’t owe you anything

quick books note
Slate is clear. It’s a new year to do what feels right and good.

The 2018 creative endeavor is done.

The goal: do something i’ve never done before. No expectation from anyone to react to my new behavior. None. You can never try something new if you aren’t willing to live with the consequences.

It sheds light and illuminates life with richer clarity than before.

With:

  • my personal Facebook account with only blood relatives and a handful of HS & College (40+ years relationships) friends
  • with texts
  • with emails
  • with phone calls

i didn’t initiate.

For a year.

The big reveal?

This was ok.

Why?

No one noticed.

No Facebook inquiries, no texts, no emails, no phone calls.

Turns out, what i felt guilty about, i didn’t need to feel guilty about.

Such a delightful surprise.

If the phone doesn’t ring, it’s me.

i hear you loud and clear too.

Glad this is okay on both sides.

All that worrying for nothing.

Freedom.

Gratitude.

Update (today, March 2): it’s now been 14 months, not 12.

Where you set the bar is always an obligation

Best Disney Keynote Speakers
Daylight when i arrived yesterday and dark when i left.

Most people don’t aim for a great life because they settle for a very good life or even an ok (average?) life.

Remember, there is no harm and no foul with where you set your life’s bar.

What is critical for happiness – and most people ignore this – is that you can’t wish for more or better and leave the bar set where you set it.

Also, a high bar doesn’t automatically equate to happiness either.

If the habits and rituals you carry aren’t serving you – no matter where your bar is set – how will you respond long-term?

Why we are unhappy TED Talk video.

Managing our big three expectations is the key to managing our happiness and unhappiness.

The video is brilliantly, and in my opinion, irrefutably presented.

Enjoy…

And…

Here’s to our best Summer ever.

T-minus 10 days to the first of several Summer Glacier National Park trips.

The first trip is 11 days, with an 8-day bicycle rental.

Why?

Increases odds of a few sunny, warm days while there.

Having bikes for 8 days ensures a few great riding days, even if it rains for days.

Pack light so you can carry more

Sanibel Island Beach in winter
We packed light. No chairs, no towels, no blankets. But time to burn…so i laid flat on my back by the edge of the sea while Cheryl combed the water’s edge for sea shells.

Fifteen minutes later, it was time to head to breakfast.

i knew this would happen (sand stuck where contact was made).

It’s quite liberating to not worry about “creating a mess”.

Pack light so you can carry more.

Much was accomplished yesterday, Super Bowl (52) Sunday.

Days like yesterday remind me that doing nothing and taking life as it comes isn’t just something for younger adults still living at home.

Because we’ve always done it that way

The thesis.

Because we’ve always done it that way.

Don’t take a risk to change things.

It probably won’t work.

And so it goes.
