Walt Disney was an overachiever.

Thirty-plus years on the inside and i’m cut from the same cloth.

No one has to overachieve or go after impossible goals.

Dear son, i will offer one cautionary piece of wisdom:

It’s ok to set the bar within reach, but you’ll eat yourself alive if you privately dream about doing it differently but never take the risk(s).

That said, it might be one of the most impossible goals i’ve ever made:

One year, seven Disney books.

Write seven Disney Business Books between the release of the iPhone 7 and the release of the iPhone 8.

And to up the level of creative difficulty, write them all at Walt Disney World and all on an iPhone.

What’s moving you?

16-year old novelist — He just turned 16 and is in the USA Track & Field shirt. He’s a writer first and foremost.

He recently decided to write a novel instead of his original idea for a collection of short stories.

His first book’s storyboard is obsolete because of his change in direction. Yet he hadn’t created a new storyboard. He’s been struggling to write everyday and i told him without a storyboard it will continue to be difficult.

After a heart-to-heart talk last night, he produced a decent first draft storyboard within an hour.

So impressed.

People are always telling you to “think outside the box.” But what if you looked inside the box you already have? The box right in front of you? That big, beautiful, box of what feels like broken and mismanaged pieces of your business? And what if you ignored “going the extra mile,” and focused on something better? A mile big? What if you focused on something small – one small step? When you switch your focus from the “big idea” to small changes, a few amazing things start to happen: your team experiences progress; progress fuels happiness and trust; trust fuels inspiration; and inspiration starts the entire circle again – small change, big results. And these small changes shouldn’t come from outside sources (outside the box). They are found in the untapped creativity already inside your existing staff – everyone from maintenance to the CEO. So why go outside that box? Start thinking inside-the-box.

Of course, i would like her to say…

Disney Author jeff noel — John Wiley and Sons was founded in 1807.

One week ago the email from Wiley inquired if i would be interested in talking about publishing with them.

Wiley?

Me?

Yes.

But i immediately tempered the opportunity, rather than getting excited.

Why?

In reality, it’s likely just an Editor fishing for opportunities. Similar to America’s Got Talent auditioning tons of hopefuls. Wiley, like any other business, relies on sales, and sales rely on products (and/or services). Books are their product.

Makes sense when you think about it. They have to hustle for business the same as everyone else.

The only difference here is that they came to me first. 😀

We had a productive and fun chat.

In yesterday’s call, i introduced Jeanenne to my goal of having my clients say, “I wish every author was like Jeff.”
