That space between worry and care-free

The phone rang as i was cycling to the gym yesterday. A college buddy works for the nation’s largest financial planning firm.

They’re having their annual leadership conference in Orlando next January.

While he’s not the final decision maker, his recent promotion has elevated him to a position of greater responsibility and influence.

Out of nowhere, he’s recommending me to be their Leadership Keynote Speaker.

Plus, in three hours, a conference call with a different client to discuss May’s Leadership retreat with a client i’ve been talking to for nearly a year and a half.

Reality is this: i’m currently without a signed contract for my next paid engagement. Nothing for the remainder of 2016 and it’s only March 1.

The Oscars, a few days ago, highlighted the best of the best.

The best of the best here at home?

Patience and faith are the frontrunners in my life.

You don’t do it for this, but…

visit all 50 States — A short detour on the way to Memphis airport ensured #50 was crossed off the list.

Rented a car to drive to Arkansas. Didn’t need a car, so i canceled it.

Tried to run across the bridge to Arkansas. Dead end. No luck.

Left Peabody Memphis late, but still had time for Lee to drive across the bridge to visit the 50th state.

While the final state was a big (unimportant) milestone, the standing ovation far outweighed it. To have hundreds of people feel something special (hope and enthusiasm) when you finish speaking is a blessing.

i told the generous audience, “If that was for me, too much. If it was for Walt and Lee (Cockerell), it was too little.”

Hometown hospital is finally arriving

Florida Hospital Winter Garden — Last night’s VIP pre-opening ceremony.

The attendees included elected officials, Florida Hospital executives, Florida Hospital Winter Garden opening leadership team, Physicians, and me.

Stayed four hours instead of the scheduled two.

Talked.

Much longer than anticipated.

It felt like home, like Family.

Even though it was business.

Relationships, insight, updates, sharing, fun, caring…these things make up the power in a lunch meeting.

It may seem casual, but in reality, it can intentionally be anything but.

The high-priced story came free with rock solid values

Orlando based Disney Keynote Speakers — From the front row.

A few days ago i had a three hour phone call from a long-time (former) Disney colleague. The most impactful moment was his reaction to me sharing that i was willing to walk away from a large contract.

What i’m saying is, he was incredibly inspired by this.

Turns out, there are still people left in the world who will make decisions using their values first and their pocket book second.

PS. i knew if i walked away, i would miss the revenue, but the purchase of a powerful story would have been priceless.

Turns outs, i got the story for free.
