Traveling without all of your normal work resources?

Disney Keynote Speakers
From an Arkansas hotel room last night (a Monday) i planned a Friday business meeting at Walt Disney World.

Traveling puts an additional challenge on your day-to-day routine because you do not have all your normal resources within reach.

However…

The digital tools available, while often overwhelming in their abundance, can make having all your resources available anywhere, anytime.

Excuses be darned.

Organize to maximize, Disney style

Walt Disney World Christmas Tree
Last night (November 8, 2018) at Disney’s Magic Kingdom.

Organize to maximize, Disney style.

The workday begins the night before.

Today is Sunday.

Meeting a Disney colleague early this morning to walk before i get ready for 8:45am Mass.

Looking forward to attending Mass, per usual.

What’s been unusual, is our Summer travel schedule – heavier than normal.

What’s also unusual is not creating a backup plan for attending Mass when we can’t do it on Sundays.

Back to the video. Is your dream, say to get and stay decently organized, crazy enough?

Of course this Summer is gonna be epic

Glacier National Park
Glacier National Park, last Summer (2017).

Of course this Summer is gonna be epic.

How could it not be?

Plus, it’s by design and completely intentional.

Why?

The reality is none of us know our end date.

And this got me to wondering, back in 2009…

What if we created a realistic date (based on our current age) as a deadline for doing stuff we might later regret not doing?

Would it work?

And what does, “Would it work mean?”

Fast forward from 2009…

i created a 10-year plan to accomplish everything i wanted (at the time) to do.

A simple list.

About five or six years into it, i added “Spend a Summer hiking in Glacier National Park.”

Yesterday, this article about Glacier Cabins possibly becoming available for lease.

Crazy.

i love these daily privileges

Disney Customer Service Speakers
Common sense isn’t common.

i love the privilege to wake up each morning, kiss my Family while they sleep, fall on my knees to pray, have two MacBooks to fire up and write with, and then spend two hours devoted to reflection, purpose, and contribution.

i can handle no, but will you watch this 20-minute video right now?

Will you watch this 20-minute video right now?

(btw, i can handle no.)

The video is a story of a self-imposed experiment to live through rejection for 100 days.

Key takeaway when you get a no:

  • Ask the person, “Why?”
  • Mention and ask about something you’d be thinking if roles were reversed: For example, “Does my question sound weird?” This defuses emotional tension.
  • Don’t run. Rejection doesn’t define you, your reaction after the no defines you.
