Coaching requires trust to be effective

brilliant classroom ideas
Soundbites captured in a classroom yesterday. Profound wisdom is simple and easy to understand.

The first note above is pure genius.

So never let your self-talk (self-coaching) happen only when you are beating yourself up for your mistakes.

Why?

Because you will never learn to trust your “good conscience”.

Do we know our blind spots?

Do we know our blind spots?

No.

That’s why they’re called blind spots.

This is an older (2007) video and worth a replay.

Brain drain enemy #1?

Learning concept
Email from a college enrollment department, trying to sell their school to high school prospects.

Learning concept
Exactly.

We spend our lives stuck in insidious and invisible loops, continuously asking, “Should I?”

Should i do this thing?

Should i do that thing?

Should i stop doing this thing or that thing?

It’s this endless series of half-baked ideas that rob our brain energy and attitude.

The antidote?

Pick one.

What?

When you ask, answer definitely.

Yes.

Or.

No.

And move on.

Our “Should I questions” pile up and bury our ability to breath in positivity.

Why?

Because we are overwhelmed with the things we feel are holding us back from becoming better (at anything and everything).

Saying yes or no – versus never answering – is a gateway to mental clarity.

Easy to see how saying no, or yes, can free your mind from the brain drain enemy.

2018 is about to get busy

2018 Apple operating system breach
Expect the unexpected., even when you are decently organized.

Two contracts arrived yesterday.

Client calls this week.

Building some tailored content.

Managing never-ending home-front chores and gearing up for multiple past-due projects.

The list goes on and on.

Relentlessly.

Figure it out.

The odds of failing vs the odds of succeeding

Gym
It was cold yesterday as i began the 13-mile bike ride to the gym. But it was the heavy rain that caused my retreat and ultimately i drove a car. It would have been much easier to cancel yesterday’s workout. It’s 30 degrees as i type this january 4, 2018.

The odds of people sticking to their New Year resolution is roughly 1 in 10.

The odds of someone starting a business and making it sustainable is less than 1 in 10.

Here’s what this reveals:

  1. Accept that it’s going to be challenging and the odds of failure are astronomical.
  2. The people who “make it” are rewarded, over time, with enough lucky breaks to tip the scale.
  3. Longevity and desire is the recipe for lucky breaks.
  4. Remember that things turn out better or worse than you dream.
  5. When it’s worse, it’s only temporary.
  6. Quitting never leads to lucky breaks.

Sorry, wish it was more complicated than that.

Go.
