Unemployed, home

Floating in a pool raft near Disney World
The epitome of retirement living?

What does it feel like to be unemployed?

For starters, context…

Unemployed means retired.

It feels surreal to be ‘unemployed’.

Let Spring Break last as long as we continue to enjoy it.

Carefree, home

Before a mortgage, career and family, we have time-freedom that disappears with adult obligation. Photo: Cheryl and me on our 17-night bicycle-honeymoon, staring at the Pacific Ocean from Orcas Island in the Puget Sound.

When in your final life-season, did you believe you were living a carefree life?

My first thought, “i can’t remember.”

Second thought, “It’s now my burning desire to chase a carefree life.”

Carefree…

Free to do what i want, when i want, with the person/people i want.

With whatever, if any, limitations that seem reasonable.

Grace, home

profound napkin message
A profound tough-love message i wrote at a random lunch meeting two decades ago while at Disney Institute. Handwritten text says, “we will remain a nation of crybabies, but you don’t have to be one of them. Bold moves.

What is Grace?

Sunshine.

A loving hand to hold.

Focus.

Discipline.

The desire to live intentionally.

Smiling Jesus, home

What makes Jesus smile?

Gotta say, this is beyond my understanding.

But if pressed to share some ideas…

Self-awareness…

Patience…

Fidelity…

Joy…

Children…

Caring…

And so on and so forth…

Probably all the things that make humans smile.

July 1, 2026, home

My recent first ever discovery of a smiling Jesus. Beyond surprised. Overwhelmed. Delighted. Ecstatic.

What’s one thing that’s surprised you about summer 2026?

While not technically ‘surprised’, being a couple months into a fixed-income lifestyle is not negatively denting our normal lifestyle so far.

Delightfully surprised.
