Improve

Generate Ideas

You can only pick a new idea or solution from what’s generated. Quantity over quality. Never evaluate in the generation stage. Think outside the box in this phase.

Select Ideas

It’s critical to think inside the box during this phase. Define your box using vision, mission, brand, and customer as the four sides.

Implement Ideas

Establish a corporately approved continuous improvement process. Ensure it becomes a way of life.

Leader’s Role

Every leader is an environmentalist. Whatever happens or doesn’t happen is the leader’s fault. Every leader’s job is to create a collaborative culture where ideas have no choice but to flourish.

How i spend my whole day

Disney leadership author jeff noel
Two days ago, writing while riding the Walt Disney World Railroad train (Roger Broggie).

i spend my whole day helping people see things and think about things they wouldn’t normally see or think about.

Do you know what happens when people see things they didn’t see and think about things didn’t think about?

It finally gives them the answers they need to change things.

Are you an artist?

Are you an artist?

Some of us have a quick, definitive answer.

Others aren’t sure. Here are the simple criteria to tell.

An artist does one (or both) of these things:

  1. Does the same thing others do, but better.
  2. Does the same thing others do, but differently.

Artists do it better or differently (and in rare cases, both).

Most of us will never be “better.”

Yet there is absolutely nothing stopping any of us from being different.

Nothing.

Nothing except doubt and fear.

Doing it differently is not the same as being better. Differently is wide open. There are no rules, no boundaries.

It can be as laser-focused as this – we can become an artist simply by the (different) way we slay doubt and fear.

It can be as simple as writing five blogs a day instead of one.

Two inspired mistakes that turned out to be winners

Hurricane Matthew map
2am – restless night.

Hurricane Matthew map
5am – watching for the slightest turn(s) to the west.

Two inspired (and one uninspired) mistakes that turned out to be winners.

  1. Used a prototype laptop (iPhone 7 Plus) for the very first time in 17 years of full-time speaking. This potential (yet inspired) mistake included using a prototype slide clicker (iPhone 7).
  2. Changed my necktie three times the first day, to coincide with three significant content topic changes. This didn’t qualify as an inspired mistake, but i did enjoy doing it for the first time ever.
  3. Wore jeans and running shoes for the first time. Steve Jobs inspired that one.

Why were these firsts?

The iPhone’s capabilities have improved compared to when i was at Disney.

Disney has an intentional set of dress code standards and i followed the Disney standards for the first two years being out on my own.

Until this week.

i love preaching what i practice.

.think .differently
