Use one or the other, but not both.

Steve Jobs would have turned 60 tomorrow. No man on jeff noel’s Dad’s side of the family lived past 60. As he approaches his 56 birthday, he (as we all should) is mindful of a ticking clock.

He’s not afraid of 60 as the end.

He’s actually insanely cognizant that none of us are guaranteed tomorrow.

Yet he is racing as if 60 is all he’ll get.

A deadline makes decisions more important and excuses irrelevant.

Organized to be partners, even in retirement

Inspirational Keynote speech near Disney
Jack the Bear is retired too, but still working.

Would have been easy to forget to take Jack the Teddy Bear on the short drive to work last week.

Would have been easy to say it doesn’t matter anymore, your son is a teenager now.

Getting organized is one thing. Staying that way is entirely another.

Live like you mean it.

In spite of it all.

This photo is so old, we both carried Blackberrys.

Bob Iger’s vision for The Walt Disney Company is organized around three precepts:

  1. Creativity
  2. Technology
  3. Globalization

And using those three, to become the most admired company in the world.

Maybe it’s impossible. Apple just earned their eighth consecutive Most Admired Company distinction.

Disney Leadership Keynote Speaker jeff noel
Just getting started.

Disney Leadership Keynote Speaker
Gave Barb a copy yesterday even though she didn’t ask.

During yesterday’s speech there was a moment where recognition was highlighted. And in the moment, raced to the back corner of the stage and grabbed from the small backpack the world’s best leadership book, Creating Magic: Ten Common Sense Leadership Strategies From A Life At Disney, by Lee Cockerell.

Told the Fortune 150 audience that the only reason i was standing in front of them now was because of Lee Cockerell.

Not a hard sell. Rather a seed planted for them on their executive leadership journey. And a small attempt to repay Lee for my biggest post Disney career break.

Insight: Was organized enough to have the book handy should an opportunity present itself.

The two keys to being decently organized

Drew Dudley leadership speaker
First speaker following the opening session, from academia.

Jackie Freiberg speaker
Second speaker on Creativity (before lunch).

Happiness Advantage speaker Shawn Achor
Third speaker (after lunch), Harvard graduate and author, The Happiness Advantage.

Navy Seal Commander and speaker
Final speaker, former Navy Seal Commander overseeing Jessica Buchanan’s rescue in Somalia.

The two keys to being decently organized:

  1. Guts
  2. Determination

Two days ago had the guts to be decisive enough to spontaneous decide to go to the National Conference opening, uninvited. Had the guts to ask permission, which was quickly granted. Had the determination to see every speaker.

Why?

So that this morning from 9:15 – 10:00am, the opportunity to blow the audience’s mind isn’t just a dream.
