Worn out cliches

Negotiating 101? Take it or leave it! There’s a number i won’t go below. By a magnitude, it’s the biggest contract ever.

Worn out cliches fall on deaf ears because the repetition and simplicity delude us into devaluing brilliant wisdom.

Being willing to walk away from a remarkable deal that gets watered down through negotiation is the ultimate risk.

Never get bored with the basics.

Seek win-win or no deal.

If you feel you are taking a loss, walk away.

Organized for calculated risk taking?

Adventure awaits. Dream big, get there, stay there.

Organized for calculated risk taking?

Pretty sure that’s not only a yes, but a heck yes.

How cool is that?

Very.

Like life-changing cool.

No slides for only the second time

Glacier National Park
Glacier National Park from the back porch of a VRBO vacation rental home on Lake McDonald.

No slides for only the second time. Ever.

Spoke with Amir yesterday and it was weird to tell him i don’t have any slides.

Am i crazy?

With 2,000+- speeches delivered since 1999, only once have i not used slides. It’s a Disney practice to be highly visual.

The TEDx Talk next week will be speech number two with no slides.

Risky?

Absolutely.

i love calculated risks.

Breakthroughs are attracted to calculated risks.

Who doesn’t love breakthroughs?

Risk like you mean it

As a kid, i listened to the Swiss Family Robinson album over and over and over.
landscape plan design flaw
In three months, the Panera sign will be blocked. It will be 10-15 years or more before these palms clear the lettering. Sable palms grow 3″ per year.

Risk like you mean it.

Take risks when the need is low. Failure then will not matter much, if at all.

This is a glorious place to be.

The key to making this a habit is to be organized so you have time to dream. When you are overwhelmed with a busy schedule, you lose this opportunity. In this case, you take risks because you’re desperate and disorganized.

Just add action

behaviors trump intentions
Does this inspire or overwhelm you?

Just add action.

Learn like you mean it, but at some point you have to put more time into action than learning.

Learning can be a great excuse-justifier.

Unless someone presses you to see this in yourself (like i did with myself years ago), you never will.

It’s a vicious cycle of wanting to learn just a little more before you take your big risk.

But alas, risks may not work and you may lose your reputation, you may look like a fool, or you may cause a serious setback for your organization (and/or yourself).

As a bonus, all action becomes a higher-level learning curriculum.
