GNP Day 58, home

9-second video: The owners are opening up their hilltop home to us for a sunset viewing.
4-second video: You cannot believe what is happening here.
14-second video: A ”pinch yourself” experience.
11-second video: We drove across the center of thousands of acres. All owned by an enterprising couple. They passed it on to their children. Terry is married to one of them. He’s touring us in his ATV.
7-second video: Unable to articulate how we got a tour of this brand new cabin.
Mountains and lake
Can you see Saint Mary?

Now can you see it?

Yes, from the owner’s porch.

Flying home to Walt Disney World tomorrow.

To return to my two favorite places in the world, peacefully excited.

To leave my (three-way tie for third) third favorite place in the world, peacefully satisfied.

Sharing private info, not recommended for most people.

Sharing what you want to share to leave a trail for your children/family, do what you want. Pay attention to advice, but ultimately let your prioritized priorities guide your choices.

16-second video: It’s like this everywhere. Profuse color.
Apple Watch in front of trail head sign
A casual hike. Saw 10 people over 10 miles and five hours on the trail.
Mountains and lake
Stopped on the way back to cabin after our 10-miler.
Post office website operating hours
Two boxes of stuff mailed home today. Babb is 10 minutes away. The closest UPS Store is two+ hours away. And two+ hours back. Babb is the smallest town i’ve ever seen. But they have a Post Office.

GoDaddy malfunctions.

In the days leading up to the first call and $5,000 Hosting plan renewal and subsequent upgrade, i was thrown off center.

Unable to add photos and videos to the five daily blog posts. The temporary solution is one i’ve used before. In the absence of wifi, i simply use Apple’s iPhone Notes App. Upon return to Orlando and solid wifi, the long and time-consuming process to transfer everything to WordPress admin….photo of text exchange before today’s hike…

Still getting emails that backups are failing. Even after repeated GoDaddy assurances everything is fine…

It is not lost on me that anyone in Ukraine would gladly trade places with me and my first-world ’problems’.

Note: Today Putin had an official declaration and celebration of claiming four Ukrainian regions as Russian territory.

At 5:12 PM received this text. This is why i love GoDaddy. As a foundational statement, i find GoDaddy to be world-class. Without my first name, it’s probably a stock reply generated by a call algorithm. But it’s still a customer touch-point that exceeds expectations.

Today we lost one of our three remaining hiking days.

Such is life.

Today was awesome. A different awesome than we planned, but still awesome.

So easy to forget that the best part of today was never losing power at home so i could visually confirm we survived Hurricane Ian.

By the way, Hurricane Ian made landfall tied for fourth on the all-time strongest hurricanes to hit America.

Hurricane track chart
A quick midday look…Hurricane Ian is moving south of Orlando.
Screenshot of TV hurricane coverage
After airport drop off, we stopped in Columbia Falls for some groceries. Cheryl shopped. i watched live hurricane coverage. At 3:05 PM (1:05 PM Mountain Time) Ian makes landfall at 150mph.

Grateful for not having a projected direct hit. All we can do is wait overnight for reality to unfold.

Heading right for us. Surrender is not a partial effort. All in or you’re not all in.

We close out today with a small taste of Highline Trail for Barb and Chuck.

First, didn’t realize this was historical for Barb — overcoming a severe fear of heights.

Second, in the long line of four grades from Kalispell, we saw two children (3rd and 8th grade) we recognized. We met them and their Family at Sperry Chalet two weeks ago.

Small World.

Note: GoDaddy has fallen usually far away from their normal top-notch customer/technical service. And, seriously worried about our home, even though i’ve fully surrendered to Mother Nature.
