GNP Day 12, HQ

9-second video: The Goat closest snuck up behind me. Had i not heard a faint stone-rustling sound, the Goat may have sniffed my shirt (they love the salt from human sweat).
Six hours door to door. Four hours on top.

Organized to have Bear Spray on every hike.

Organized to practice spraying it the last day of every Summer. Cannisters spray for about eight seconds. They say it’s 50 times stronger than Mace Pepper Spray.

Thought for a few moments it would be necessary to shoot a half-second spray bewteen me and the larger Goat.

Knowing what a half-second of spray looks like is a huge advantage in projecting confidence (read, no fear) to the animal.

My (humans) lack of fear casts doubt (and probably a healthy fear) about the Goat’s wilderness advantage.

11-second video: For context, they are heading up while i am heading down.
15-second video: Playful. We spent 15 minutes together before it felt safe to pass.
23-second video: Farewell my friends. Until we meet again.
Apple Watch on a persons rest in the mountains
About 5.5 hours from start to finish. Three hours on top.

Organize yourself to solve for known dissatisfiers: strong ultra-violet light, and prolific flying insects.

Thank goodness for suntan lotion and bug spray.

13 hikers posing for a group picture in the mountains
13 of Rising Sun Motor Inn’s 2022 staff heading to Haystack Butte to watch the sun set.
27-second video: Starting a hike at 8:30pm means the hike back is in the dark.

Reveling in the first 2022 Oberlin summit while also reveling in 2022’s first Big Horn Sheep sighting, a unique and surprising moment happened.

Turning around from the Sheep, there’s a group next to me asking if i’d like to join them for a sunset hike.

It’s weirdly wonderful being recognized when you’re away from home. It’s even cooler when the locals invite you into their circle.

5-second video: Spectacular.

Breathtakingly spectacular.

The sheer steepness is awe-inspiring.

The Universe has equipped these creatures with a rare ability.

17-second video: Vlogging?
Person sitting with legs in a creek
Icing feet and achilles in Rose Creek next to Rising Sun campground.
Freeze dried dinner packet on car dashboard
St Mary Lodge parking lot. Dinner. Trying to upload photos and videos to iCloud. It worked poorly.

It’s fun to experiment.

Experiments, succeed or fail, always teach.

And it’s especially fun when the experiment exceeds your expectation for learning.
