Lake McDonald Lodge was a great vision

Life is hard.

And frustrating.

Even the smallest things can remind us.

But we’re too busy to notice.

What gets our attention are wake up calls.

Scares, threats, tragedy.

What about small seemingly insignificant reminders. Like no wifi available.

But then you arrive at Lake McDonald Lodge and on the second attempt, you finish this post.

Insight: We are severely distracted, entertained, and medicated on busy-ness and accessibility.

A song we know by heart?

Sarcastic button about commitment

(photo: A song we know by heart?)

Waiting until the last minute to do something important puts you at the mercy of several things and we should know better.

Our ability to walk away is greatly reduced.

Not being able to (or refusing to) walk away is a recipe for disappointment.

It will cost too much.

Choices are severely limited or none existent.

We are tempted to use poor judgement to compensate for our emotional sense of urgency.

Long shot: the harder we work, the luckier we get.

And about as exciting as planning that solo cross country bicycle trip

iPhone 6 box

(photo: The most sophisticated pocket computer ever created also doubles as a phone – the future is here?)

One hundred days ago the call was initiated to talk about the future. It was made from the older, less sophisticated iPhone 5s. But only 100 days ago the iPhone 5s was the most sophisticated pocket computer known to humans.

And as the future approaches one day at a time, we barely notice.

Yet the future is a once-in-a-life-time milestone.

Scary for sure. Exciting for sure.

Personally, it’s about as exciting as planning that solo cross country bicycle trip back in ’82.

The notion of riding (solo) a bicycle from Pennsylvania to Washington State with only $75 in your pocket.

Impossible is nothing.

She doesn’t want her children to hate her after she’s gone

app screen
No app exists for making junk disappear, or even for identifying what to keep and what to purge.

Stunning, remarkable long-distance conversation this week.

She said she is dedicating the next year to clearing out her house of all the accumulated stuff.

She doesn’t want her children to hate her after she’s gone.

She has been quietly inspired by a book’s message that being decently organized is a personal responsibility and that no one should leave behind a crazy mess that others have to clean up.
