The dreams of being an entrepreneur are becoming real

(photos: Things that would have been missed from inside a car. All photos are from an 11-mile-run loop behind Disney’s Magic Kingdom Park.) (The final two photos are a Disney Cast Member Good Samaritan providing roadside assistance in a remote area.)

Began the run with wool hat and gloves. Over the course of three hours, it turned into a Chamber of Commerce kind of day. Perfect for yesterday, December 10, 2014.

Eight mile jog plus three mile walk.

A day like yesterday is the result of six years of planning as a small business owner and 30 years as a Walt Disney World Cast Member.

And it all began when a young couple living on the Washington-Idaho boarder decided to risk everything and move to Orlando with no jobs.

They both began making entry-level wages, got lucky in a low-income mortgage finance lottery, bought a starter home 30 miles from Disney, and managed with one car and one bicycle.

The predictable going-through-the-motions-autopilot

Orlando Leadership Keynote Speakers

(photo: Karim Marucchi’s biggest client is MLC’s former employer, Disney. How cool is that?)

When you go to a conference, how do you organize your time?

See as many sessions as possible?

See as few sessions as possible?

The first choice is a weak, auto-pilot choice.

The second is a well thought out, remarkably intentional choice.

Being organized isn’t just for our stuff.

It’s also for the processes that allow us to make the most of every opportunity, including a two-day conference jam-packed with classroom sessions.

Only attended one.

The opening keynote. Randomly, it happened to be Karim. Wasn’t there to hear him or his message.

Was there to see what tone was going to be set for the 2014 WordPress Word Camp Orlando conference.

Be organized enough to make taking risks a habit

Feeling restless yesterday morning. Drove to Disney’s Contemporary Resort, walked to Disney’s Magic Kingdom by 8:50am (first photo). Made it to the foot of Cinderella Castle by 9:10am (see fourth photo). Left Magic Kingdom just before 10am (fifth photo) and returned to car to drive home. An hour well spent.

What would be a reasonable daily fee?

Walt Disney quote

(photo: Four days ago this sign presented itself and planted itself as an unwavering conviction)

What would be a reasonable daily fee?

The paperwork of life requires that we are decently organized with everything.

This includes our pricing structure if we are self employed.

On the first working day of retirement (yesterday, Nov 3, 2014) the daily delivery fee was estimated in the discussion.

You get what you pay for.

You want the best money can buy, you pay for it.

This is something that makes total sense.

The long way is the short cut.
