Bad Habits Don’t Just Go Away

Don't Get Too Carried Away

“A bad habit never disappears miraculously; it’s an undo-it-yourself project.” – Abigail Van Buren

Pauline Phillips, better known as Abigail Van Buren, wrote the syndicated “Dear Abby” column for 46 years.

What would happen to your life if every day (or nearly every day) you did one thing to become more organized, even if it was as small and seemingly insignificant as recycling or trashing something you haven’t touched in 11 years?

This is doable. But it will require you to rethink your normal routine.

Bucket lists.

Some have seen the movie or heard the phrase and understand the basic premise – to do some things we’ve always wanted to do, but have put off for various reasons.

This is prompted, mainly, because we get some challenging news and feel a sense of urgency.

If we don’t do it soon, we fear, we may never get the chance.

Is your bucket list long or short? What’s on your bucket list?

I’m stunned at how mine has completely changed from younger days.

When you look at your list, where is it focused?

On you?

Or on some greater purpose?

You search the Internet for answers, for insight, for tips and tricks, for shortcuts, for entertainment, for friendship and a host of other reasons. It’s all good, as they say.

But just to be clear, these blogs are for the the person who is looking for transformational change.

Anyone looking for easy, quick, or small, can stop wasting their time here.

I’ll have none of it, thank you very much.

To whom much has been given, much will be required.

We all have been given the 5 gifts of mind, body, spirit, job and daily life.

Last night, I purposefully had a meeting at 8:00PM.

Just me and President Obama.

Well, sort of.

You may have been there too.

George Washington, our Nation’s first President started his meetings with prayer.

I wonder why? Seemed obvious, and relevant back then, but prayer is not something that is typically part of business today.

Perhaps it could be. George’s attitude towards life and success may still be relevant today. God Bless America, as President Obama closed his speech.

1 Overlooked Skill

It Can Be Hard To Focus On
It Can Be Hard To Focus On

Being organized is a skill. It requires hard work, creativity, flexibility and a willingness to be focused and disciplined.

But it requires one thing that most people overlook.

And this one overlooked skill is the critical difference between a clean desk and a messy desk.

Decisiveness.

Think about it.

You must decide, all day, everyday, what to do, what to keep, where to put things, what to discard, what to ignore, how to prioritize, etc.

All day.

Everyday.

It never ends.

And then you should decide what you believe and get busy, right here, right now.
