Roy Disney, October 25, 1971

Roy came out of retirement after his younger brother’s 1966 death. Roy could have simply dumped the (swamp) land. We bought it (27,443 acres/43 square miles) cheap. We could sell it cheap. Walt was so crazy to believe we could create the vacation capital of the world in the middle of alligator, snake, and mosquito-infested swampland. Roy knew better. So did everyone else. Ain’t no way, too big a reach. Yet here we are.
