One Million acres, home

Mountains
Gunsight Mountain, center. Sperry Chalet tucked in there nicely.

Zooming out for some more context.

Snapped this by mistake while trying to shoot a video.
13-second video: October is a dramatic transition from GNP open and closed. Snow will close the Pass soon. When the Pass closes, the road closes.
Apple Watch fitness app
One-way mileage from Apgar.
15-second video: Video shot from off the beaten path.
Man on a stage selfie and audience
Oktoberfest in Whitefish, Montana, with Steve and Stacy, Dr Greg’s son-in-law. There’s more to this photo and will save it for later.

Glacier’s one-million acres is a spec inside Big Sky Country’s ethos.

And yet, Glacier might be Big Sky Country’s HQ.

Glacier surprises, home

Stop sign in street signs
Funny how things line up sometimes. Random? Intentional? Does it matter? Does anyone else think about stuff like this?
Talent show poster
The ‘Montana’s Got Talent’ MC announced this when we attended ‘The North Country Ramble’ at Glacier Park Lodge.
Talent show poster
Second row far left, Drew Landry. Hoping Drew wins.
Karma is in the eye of the beholder. As a cyclist, this is karma to me, in the weirdest sort of way. Cool stuff.
Cafe trivia screen
Dinner down at Big Fork Brewery overlooking Flathead Lake.

A priority can be as uncommonly artistic as prioritizing the present moment over tomorrow.

’The Canyon’ (leading to Glacier) from our hotel room window.
14-second video: i do not watch much TV. However, the VP debate got added to my calendar.

This post is a the exact same content as lane8.org today, but in reverse order and substituting the word ‘talk’ for the original word ‘water’:

Talk is cool.

Talk is a tool.

Talk is functional.

Talk is life-sustaining.

Allergic to cold, home

mountain
Such a beautiful, understated mountain.

Unassuming. Competing with the Continental Divide to the right (out of sight in this photo).
Apple iOS update screen
Updated to iOS 18 this morning.
Apple Hikes and routes screen
Apple is, it seems to me, trying to make All Trails irrelevant.
Restaurant vision board on a wall
At dinner last night, i walked around the restaurant. This poster is in a side station, in view from ‘onstage’.

Me and Cheryl, we believe!

Wait, you’re still in Glacier?, home

small town brick buildings with a mannequin
An iconic Main Street Kalispell, Montana feature. We always check to see if it’s still there.
newsroom building with window sign
Been reading the daily digital editions for years. In 2024, they abandoned print delivery. It was fun to actually see where their physical office is. It’s not far from the repelling ‘mountaineer ‘ on the brick Main Street building.
Disney's Stitch decal on truck
Could have easily missed this decal in the Grocery Store parking lot.
Disney's Stitch decal on truck
Stitch, lower left. Grocery store, straight ahead.

So much normalcy has been (appropriately) revealed as we spend much more time ‘in town’, far away from Glacier’s Lodges and trails.

There is nothing special, to me, about this region if you are landlocked to your street, your grocery store, and your daily routine.

People fly from all over the world to visit. Which is pretty flattering to locals. The tourists leave soon thereafter.

But if you aren’t on vacation, you likely will avoid the crowds (and drive). This then becomes a habit and a ritual.
