Swiftcurrent Valley, day 7, home

animated naked Santa with coffee mug
Silly picture of a silly card. Silly thinking about how silly it is to put your dreams and ambitions in a closet.

Our annual Summer Glacier trips began in 2013.

Summer 2013 was a one week trip to imprint on our son someplace the opposite of Florida’s flatland at sea level.

Long story short, it morphed way past anything i had envisioned.

We are well satisfied with this life stage.

Now we envision something different.

Will we never return to Glacier?

Can’t see never going back as realistic.

Can see shorter visits, less frequently.

Time will tell.

Swiftcurrent Valley. So what?

Swiftcurrent Valley.

So what?

So what, indeed!

God, are Cheryl and me ‘lucky’?

Mountain lake from hotel balcony
A photo like this from my Many Glacier Hotel room balcony perfectly illustrates how two mountain valleys can seem like one place.

Here’s quite possibly my understatement of 2026…

Life is mind-boggingly fascinating.

family of three posing in the mountains
On Swiftcurrent Trail. The top of Swiftcurrent Glacier on horizon. There is a series of small lakes along the several miles of valley-level trail before the ascent up to Swiftcurrent Pass.

This valley was carved by glaciers.

This general, easy public access has only happened since 1910.

Before that, think “ jurassic park”.

Earth is roughly 4.5 billion years old.

We only gained public access to this space a century ago.

Try to wrap your head around that.

Ps. It’s impossible.

base ball cap labeled Babb (Montana)
You have to drive through Babb, Montana (takes three seconds) to get to Swiftcurrent Valley.

My first visit to Glacier was Summer 1973.

i was an impressionable young teenager.

Our chartered cross-country bus carrying 40 Boy Scouts plus chaperones drove through Babb at dusk.

The only way to drive to Swiftcurrent Valley is through Babb.

Once you finish the 3-second drive through Babb, it’s another 13 miles until the road ends at Swiftcurrent Motor Inn.
