Even without the stunning views it was beautiful

Logan Pass
Howard’s head blocked the whole point of this photo. And smoke blocked the rich mountain details.

Logan Pass
i thought it was funny when i saw i messed up the previous photo,

Logan Pass
Closeup.

Logan Pass
Late Summer and the seeds are prolific.

Logan Pass
Visitor Center quickly begins to fade away as we hike 1.5 miles up.

Logan Pass
A rare moment of sunshine.

Logan Pass
Have never witnessed smoke at Logan Pass. Going to the Sun Mountain is almost invisible.

Logan Pass
Hidden Lake Trail overlook. Try to visit without taking some photos. Dare ya.

Logan Pass
Eventually, we put our cameras back in our pockets.

Logan Pass
Descent.

Logan Pass
By 8:00 AM in the Summer, it’s full.

After dinner, we drove 20 minutes back up to Logan Pass for a three-mile (500′ elevation gain) warm-up hike.

The stunning views were nowhere to be found. i didn’t belabor it. Howard understood and i was grateful for that.

Being the only humans at the overlook, it was remarkably creepy.

Quiet, wild, and potentially vulnerable are understatements.

Driving the speed limit may save your life

Traffic accident
Ride my bike past here three times every week.

car accident
No telling what time this happened. Praying no one was hurt.

car accident
Reminded by this morning’s near miss on the drive to the airport how things can change in an instant.

Driving the speed limit may save your life.

To know is to do. To know and not do, is to not yet know.

Wisdom Day began March 6, 2017.

That was yesterday. Last night to be exact.

Made sure to create a calendar event entitled “Wisdom Day for Chapin”.

Last night’s conversation was significant. Chapin was on point, articulate, and grounded.

He also surprised me by saying, “The photos and written descriptions don’t align with who you are.”

Everything he said made sense and was spot on.

i told him to remember this day.

This is the day your wisdom begins for you.

PS. i posted all those photos (above) on facebook yesterday. That alone was not bad, what was misaligned was my motivation for posting them. It leaned to the side of sarcastic humor.

i removed all the photos and updates.

It was the right thing to do, even if Chapin was the only one who probably noticed.

Be careful the story you tell yourself

Quiet leadership
Photo: Text from head coach. In one month he went from being last to shaving 7 minutes off his 5k time. See the date, September 15? Yesterday’s 5k was October 15, 2016.

Be careful the story you tell yourself.

Lightening up is good for your likability

Forehead thermometer
Blindspots are so obvious to everyone but the person with the blindspot. The person’s blindspot is always there but just out of sight.

Lightening up is good for your likability. In business and in personal relationships.

Seems so obvious.

Yet.

Yet we struggle.

Behaving in a mirror image with the way we think is called integrity.

Allowing our busy schedule, and the stress it brings, to blindly have ourselves behave differently than we think is called a blindspot.

Dear Son, this is one of the many more important lessons i’d like you to practice and hone before you graduate High School.
