We employ the cocktail-size weenie trick

Disney Institute Keynote Speaker
Bob Iger took over for Michael Eisner in 2005, when Michael retired after serving as our CEO for 21 years. Bob was to retire in 2015 when his 10-year contract concluded. He’s (still) our CEO through July 2019.

We employ the cocktail-size weenie trick.

Walt could get his dog to do just about any trick – including tricks it didn’t want to do – for one of those small cocktail sized hot dogs that come in a can.

We affectionally call Cinderella Castle a weenie.

Our Guests don’t particularly want to keep moving down Main Street USA, but we really need to keep the Guest flow moving.

Main Street USA is a huge bottleneck.

A classic traffic jam creator.

But you’ll literally never experience Cast Members shouting and directing our Guests to “keep it moving folks”.

Why?

How?

The Castle acts like a weenie to get our Guests to do something they don’t want to do – keep moving.

Cinderella Castle beckons our Guests to come closer – there’s more Magic up ahead.

i’m not delusional

Context – Castaway Cay in the background as we depart for Port Canaveral.

i’m not delusional.

i’m an entrepreneur.

If someone said, “Dude, you need to simultaneously write seven business books”, you’d absolutely think the person is nuts.

Out-of-their-mind crazy.

Basket case.

What if you said, “Okay, how much time do i have?”

Crazy book writing concoction

Disney Keynote Speaker
Walt with a cigarette in hand. Salvador Dali’s coat buttons are way off.

Nothing in the photo above is in perfect focus.

Normally, i like at least some part of every photo to be in focus.

But i surrender.

Art can happen when the intent (and the experience of creating) is more important than the output.

Here’s the thing: i enjoyed the act of creating something that is rare – the photographs in these posts.

The intent of this post is to make a segue to the art of writing seven Disney Business books.

This book writing concoction – seven Disney books at once – is also rare.

Rare and unusual has its place in our world.

Thank goodness.

Less is more, so they say

Without portrait mode, more things are in focus.

I wanted to write you a shorter letter but didn’t have the time.  – unknown

Less is more, so they say.

Except, maybe, when it comes to spending time in a place that inspires you like few other places.

See you tomorrow Glacier National Park.

Getting high

Disney Keynote speaker
Get vertical. Spent four days near sea level.

Life in Orlando is spent at about 100 feet above sea level.

Life in Glacier starts at 3,000+ feet – all day, every day.

The Logan Pass visitor’s center (the hub for many great hikes) is at 6,643′.

So yes, planning to get high soon.
