Time, home

three men at a Mountain Lake
A picture is worth a thousand words. A dozen annual pictures of the same people at the same place, year after year…time well spent.

Home presence

12-second video: It’s hard to look away from something so mesmerizingly beautiful. But if you do, you won’t miss the encore behind you…
mountain sunset
Simply turn around 180-degrees. An easy half-spin. How amazing is this? Here’s a video of the same moments…
10-second video: Learned this presence on Sanibel Island decades ago. And over those decades, have learned to apply it to everything.

Home presence…

Presence of my priorities…

And eventually, the presence to prioritize them…

Wasn’t easy, but the presence to stay with it led to peace and contentment…personal vibrancy.

Short jaunt from downstairs

two story home foyer steps
Carrying a DIY bookshelf upstairs.

Enjoying the gentle, small glimpses of rediscovering a more carefree jeff.

How?

Shedding stuff (for years and years).

Shedding work/career responsibilities (one final “consulting” client – my favorite and longest). This one is a significant catalyst. A recent decision to commit to officially stop.

Note: Still gladly doing Disney Customer Service Keynotes. Never feels like work. Dedicated my life to synthesizing Disney’s world class customer service reputation into something that anyone can do.

We teach without a plan

Circa 2014: My Castle turret sketch for a graphic designer.

Another version of the Castle turret. Created a bunch of these to help a graphic designer see what i was saying.

We teach without a plan.

How?

We teach with our behaviors.

Our behavioral habits demonstrate what we actually believe in.

The unspoken challenge (and unspoken opportunity) is to become self aware.

Self aware of our limited efforts to shed the unproductive things we do. The unproductive habits that develop over time because in the early stages, they brought us pleasure or eliminated pain. We welcomed that in those earlier days. And we will become what we repeatedly do, so those insidious mechanisms to create pleasure or to avoid pain are unconsciously who we are.

Everyone close to us knows it.

Our original plan to create pleasure or avoid pain are counter-productive to identifying our life’s priorities in a prioritized order.

A vicious cycle that quietly moves from generation to generation.
