Can you be on Island-Time anywhere, and anytime?

While i say a resounding, Yes!

Truth is it depends on who you are, and where you are in life.

Reminder: No male on my Dad’s side made it past 60 years old.

i’m much closer to 70 than 60.

This, to me, is an inspiring miracle.

Thank you cosmos, universe, energy, light, and 4.5 billion years of getting me to here, today, now. So blessed.

Saying that to say this…

i’m grounded in how blessed i am to live and write the way i live and write.

Bonus: Also grounded in why i live and write the way i live and write.

Early Summer Trip day 2, home

Officially graduated, 2019. Thanks for being here “Uncle Mike”. And thanks for letting us stay with you every time we’re in Allentown. Pennsylvania visits are rare these days.

Will today be remarkable and fun?

Should be.

How can it not be?

We have a late afternoon ‘call-time’ to be at Allentown’s PPL Center.

PPL stands for Pennsylvania Power and Light.

Since 2014, it’s an 8,500-seat event center.

Tonight Cheryl’s class of 1976 will pay tribute to their High School’s graduating class of 2026.

Note: We are not expected to stay for the entire Graduation ceremony.

What will it be like to attend Cheryl’s 50th High School (HS) reunion?

The first time i visited Allentown was 1979. Met Cheryl’s parents and saw a great comedian at an outdoor fairgrounds stadium.

Cheryl had recently called off her engagement to be married to a fellow HS classmate. And i thought i had found the girl i would eventually marry.

Now here we are, Summer 2026…

From fellow RA’s on the top (6th) floor of a co-ed dorm to best friends for 47 years now.

Funny how life works.

Half a lap

high school track sprint in black and white
1977. Can’t tell if this is the 440 or the 220 finish tape. The background bleachers indicate this is the 220.

Was a good 100 yard sprinter in High School. Then senior year, Tim Hawkins took my spot as our team’s fastest 100-yard dash sprinter.

It was healthy to have my “bubble burst”.

i was a very good 220 yard sprinter. Was never beaten by a teammate. Ever. A few rival schools had faster 220 sprinters.

Humbly (hopefully), i was an excellent 440 sprinter.

Note: Sophomore year a rival team put their soon-to-be 100-yard Pennsylvania High School 1975 State Champion against me. It was my only loss in three years of York County competition, including being three-time County Champion. Scott Fitskee was second in the 220 and Long Jump at States. 1975 results here.
