Put your health before work or put work before health?

No brainer, eh?

Or is it?

An overwhelming number of executives forgo their health (moving, sleeping, nutrition) because their ‘work’ time/availability is so incredibly demanded.

Immediately after scheduling next week’s third followup eye exam before leaving the office, i walked to the car and called an executive coaching client.

i was late for work and had texted the CEO with a heads up at 8:45AM.

In a perfect world, today’s 8:20AM appointment would be finished by 9:00AM. And after all, arriving at 7:40AM (40 mins early) should easily facilitate all the office paperwork so that i can be ready in the exam room early.

i was 15 minutes late for the call.

And…

Was intentionally prepared, by design, to do the call in the car, in the parking lot. Why? To be on time for our standing 9:00AM call.

Backstage in “jeff-Land” is like backstage literally everywhere – interesting, surprising, and decently straightforward.

Here is the list of the weekly call’s prepared questions.

Love getting inspiring texts from you. Do you know why?

Take me on a tour of your organization 5 yrs from now?

Why do companies (why does your company) struggle with recognition?

Why do companies (and your company) struggle with attracting the best talent?

Why do CEO’s get frustrated?

How do they fix it?

How important are work relationships?

Where are relationships better…hurried or not so hurried?

Slowing down to speed up example…10 reps…

What if instead of me identifying the reps, you told me the reps….or, we each did 5?

Or…you did three and I do 1 (or 2).

Would you want to report to yourself? Why?

Note: Sharing the questions as a blogging state-change, an unexpected backstage peek.

You know what?

lodging room inventory chart
Dark pink means no vacancy. Light pink means vacancy. The last four nights of this season are now available courtesy of you know who. Took a hit financially from the 50% deposit loss cancellation policy. It’s a fair policy which i graciously accept.
13-second video: Noah Lyles just pulled off a rare 100/200 double Gold medal performance at the 2023 Track & Field World Championships in Budapest. His vision is to break Usain Bolt’s 19.19 200 world record.

Everything is a blessing when you employ a growth mindset.

You know what?

So grateful to have prioritized priorities.

Had to cancel a four-night Sperry Chalet reservation this morning.

(a blessing on so many levels)

Cheryl and i are tickled at the ‘tradition’ we started three years ago.

(another blessing on so many levels)

We got lucky and were able to spend the final three nights at Sperry in 2021. Last year, 2022, we went big and spent the final four night at Sperry.

(ditto on the blessing thing)

Missing our new ‘tradition in 2023’ will take psychological pressure off me to try and balance timing of a trip with my body’s natural timetable for healing.

(another blessing on so many levels)

Ps. Able to gift (i’m well past any refund window) tomorrow’s two-night Granite Park Chalet to a GNP reservation agent. Offered it to several people, based on ‘seniority’ of me knowing them. Taylor, the GNP Reservation agent, is someone i’ve never met. However, his leader, who i invited, is unable to go and she recommended Taylor who’s had it on his bucket list the past two Summers.

(double-ditto on the blessing thing)

Looking up at a bird on a wire
The blessing of sight. The blessing of a flexible neck. The blessing of curiosity. The blessing of presence. The blessing of appreciation. The blessing of symbiosis. The blessings of gratitude and surrender. Photo: Spring 2023, looking up at a Cardinal during a morning walk. Cardinals are generally skittish. To be directly beneath one is rare. i enjoyed it so much, the photo was taken as proof of that present moment.

If i started writing a list of all the things i’m grateful for, it would never be finished.

Hearing the Cardinal’s ‘singing’ got my attention. Expecting the Cardinal to fly away, imagine the surprise standing underneath it while it continued it’s chirping.

Be prepared. It may take decades.

Decades of moving to a peaceful core minimized anxiety. You know, the anxiety from picturing your eye ball punctured with needles.
