Second Eye Surgery, home

Handwritten note from two small children
Hand-made and hand-delivered around dinner time tonight.
Four gourmet cookies
Fancy, gourmet cookies make you smile even if you don’t like cookies. We happen to like cookies. And smiling.

Sleep is a superpower.

Believe

iPhone trade in value chart
Wondered about my backup phone trade-in value, maybe 7:00 AM today.
healthcare email
Easy to complete the second time. After three weeks from the initial completion, nothing has changed.

Started cancelling everything for 2023.

Spent the afternoon on small ticket items, and bigger ticket items…
airline flight cancellation credit
Cancelled for a future credit, the one-way ticket. Seems like only five years ago that fee would be roundtrip fare.

Always remember, a long day is a blessing.

A long day.

Emotionally draining day.

Insanely grateful day.

Surrounded by talented local and national experts to help with planning, logistics, changes, etc.

Could have used a six-mile walk but getting zero miles today is still ok, all things considered.

Blessed to be exhausted.

Bonus was watching the final Season three Ted Lasso episode.

Everything about today makes me feel like the luckiest person alive.

Makes one wonder if every day can feel like this.

Giddy (and) UP

Woman on touring bicycle
Puget Sound. Honeymoon. We’ve been filling our “Adventure Book” even before we got married.

Hoping for the best is an awesome mindset.

Giddy about returning to Glacier in as little as a week.

UP is our favorite Pixar movie.

Adventure is out there.

We know it.

We love doing it.

Grateful for hoping for the best because it led me to hold off on canceling every reservation.

Thank goodness.

Hoping Friday’s eye exam is the green light to (a return to our Summer 2023) Adventure.

Our packed and organized rental van is waiting for our arrival.

Note: We’ve been paying for the van even though no one is driving it.

Eye surgery update, home

29-second video: #truth #humbled #insanelygrateful

Almost sundown.

Came outside to turn off a watering hose.

Took my glasses off and covered my right eye. By the way, probably doing this 20-40 times a day.

In this late-day moment, vision (still fuzzy) is the best it’s been since surgery.

Dare i say it’s much better than 12 hours ago?

In 36 hours i see Dr. Kumar for the “three-week” post op exam.

Can’t wait for him to see the progress with his instruments.

Feeling insanely blessed and grateful.

Put your health before work or put work before health?

No brainer, eh?

Or is it?

An overwhelming number of executives forgo their health (moving, sleeping, nutrition) because their ‘work’ time/availability is so incredibly demanded.

Immediately after scheduling next week’s third followup eye exam before leaving the office, i walked to the car and called an executive coaching client.

i was late for work and had texted the CEO with a heads up at 8:45AM.

In a perfect world, today’s 8:20AM appointment would be finished by 9:00AM. And after all, arriving at 7:40AM (40 mins early) should easily facilitate all the office paperwork so that i can be ready in the exam room early.

i was 15 minutes late for the call.

And…

Was intentionally prepared, by design, to do the call in the car, in the parking lot. Why? To be on time for our standing 9:00AM call.

Backstage in “jeff-Land” is like backstage literally everywhere – interesting, surprising, and decently straightforward.

Here is the list of the weekly call’s prepared questions.

Love getting inspiring texts from you. Do you know why?

Take me on a tour of your organization 5 yrs from now?

Why do companies (why does your company) struggle with recognition?

Why do companies (and your company) struggle with attracting the best talent?

Why do CEO’s get frustrated?

How do they fix it?

How important are work relationships?

Where are relationships better…hurried or not so hurried?

Slowing down to speed up example…10 reps…

What if instead of me identifying the reps, you told me the reps….or, we each did 5?

Or…you did three and I do 1 (or 2).

Would you want to report to yourself? Why?

Note: Sharing the questions as a blogging state-change, an unexpected backstage peek.
