Piegan Glacier from above

15-second 2020 video: To be in this place under the circumstances completely blew my mind.

To find courage, time, and tenacity, to pursue personal leadership vibrancy can seem elusive. May serendipity and karma bless you with a lucky break or two this season.

Regarding the 15-second video: To be in this place under the circumstances completely blew my mind.

The OMG in this video is because summiting Piegan Mountain was not in the plan. Was actually doing reconnaissance for Pollock Mountain for a future solo attempt. It was so cold and windy, i almost descended after a few minutes at the saddle. The saddle between Pollock and Piegan is an unforgiving wind tunnel.

In the moment, decided to start walking toward Piegan to see what would happen. Maybe the wind would die down. Maybe if i kept moving i could stay warm. One thing led to another. Like a Siren’s Song…the nearly invisible Goat trail beckoned. Serendipity and karma paid me a solid.

What’s it like Jeff?

27-second video: What’s it like hiking in Glacier? Sometimes it’s like this. Assuming this animal trail leads potentially to the summit at 9,200′.

In real time, i’d have flown to Glacier a few days ago to begin the June 2022 first visit. Writing this, however, from our back porch at Walt Disney World. Stumbled upon the videos and the rest as they say is (blogging) history.

A hidden what?

21-second video: On the saddle between two 9,200’ peaks, a hidden Mickey.

Surprise and delight.

Check.

Trail etiquette

Gunsight Mountain, left. Edwards Mountain, right.

Trail etiquette:

  • Pack it in, pack it out
  • Always hydrate (drink a lot) before hitting trail
  • Carry more water than you think you’ll need
  • Ascending hikers have right of way
  • Step aside if a faster hiker(s) catches us
  • On flat trail with hikers approaching from the opposite direction, it’s always nice to be the first to step aside
  • Never approach wildlife
  • Please speak up if you want to stop for a moment (for any reason…water, photo, snack, delayer, add a layer, ask a question about something you see, etc)

Organize to maximize

Was afraid of falling just from watching this video on a laptop, sitting at my home office desk.
