Like a broken record?

quote about choice
Choosing wisely is hard work. So is choosing poorly. We forget the later.

Like a broken record?

Yes.

Every day it’s the same thing.

And part of our routine is to be open to spontaneity. Routine can inhibit spontaneity.

Everyone knows that.

But being decently organized and simplified facilitates a balanced amount of spontaneity.

Without being decently organized, we spend too much of our time slowly falling behind.

Falling behind inhibits enjoyment of spontaneity.

On April Fool’s Day 2009, jeff noel began writing five daily, differently-themed blogs (on five different sites). It was to be a 100-day self-imposed “writer’s bootcamp”, in preparation for writing his first book. He hasn’t missed a single day since.

Planning to be home by lunch

International Women's Day 2016
Facebook screen capture yesterday, March 8: International Women’s Day.

It started small but grew and when it was over…

Routine Dentist visit.

Resumed allergy shots (now three shots each visit) after a year layoff. The year off was semi-intentional, it was also a mistake.

Dropped off 2015 tax paperwork.

Brunch (Chick-fil-A drive thru).

Dropped off paperwork at Hospital for client.

Haircut. Took over an hour, abnormally long wait.

Bank for business account enhancement(s). Went in for a 10-minute transaction and left 90 minutes later.

Phone call with publishing company executive, which got pushed back an hour because of long bank visit,

All of the above required a time commitment from 8am – 4pm.

So much for home by lunch.

All it takes is one time consuming detour today

Magic Kingdom main entrance
It was packed for a Monday, January 4th. Leisurely burned nearly two hours for a run before the setback.

All it takes is one time consuming (one to three hour) detour in our day and we quickly feel the stress of having our daily plan come apart. Recovering from these set backs ripples into the next day as well. Heaven forbid we have two days in a row like this.

Would life change simply by journalling everyday?

iPhone calculator screen shot
Few have time to write everyday, let alone write five everyday.

Would life change simply by journalling everyday?

Odds are significant (maybe 100%) that you could be bold enough to say, “Yes, definitely. Guaranteed.”

Each day that passes, five more blog posts get added to the total. This post is number five for today, bringing the total to 12,707.

The long way is the short cut.

Update: Fast forward to today (March 26), add 500 more posts because this was written 100 days ago. So, now there are 13,202 public posts. Sick.

The magic of organized habits

Disney Management Consultants
When Epcot Center open October 1, 1982, this was the only place you could find Mickey Mouse inside the Park. Photo taken yesterday.

Disney Customer Service Keynote Speaker
Yesterday we had lunch here. Today is Thanksgiving 2015.

The magic of organized habits. Our brain is super powerful and is programmed by the thoughts that fill our brain.

Thinking nothing but good and decent thoughts is transformational.

Thinking predominantly about fear, failure, low self-esteem, problems, unfairness, insecurities, excuses, regret – all these things are transformational too.

Pick one.

Stick with it for a lifetime and reap what you’ve sown.

It really isn’t any more complicated than that.

Wishing you the best.
