Noticed a few college quirks:
Every freshman guy wore a tee-shirt.
The staff seemed genuinely excited for a new year. Is it the new College President or is this par for the course?
The environment for great personal discovery is everywhere – as if it’s hanging in the air, everywhere.
Most freshmen seem to be playing it safe, cautious, reserved.
Parents do not use the dining hall by themselves (without their freshman child), if at all, at least during the four meals we had there.

Asking questions is a brilliant thing to do.
So obvious, right?
Not really.
Asking brilliant questions is a brilliant thing to do.
Son, please remember my Disney experience from asking questions in a public (Disney) forum.
Unknowingly i was embarrassing and pissing off leaders because the questions i asked should have been simultaneously answered aloud by every team member attending the meetings.
Instead, the questions harvested crickets.
However, this equation changes when you are in deep self-reflection. It doesn’t matter if our audience (yourself) gets pissed off or embarrassed.
Discomfort with your answers is fuel for positive change. Lean into it.

Yesterday morning before the Lyft to the airport, i was synching the Garmin Satellite GPS device that arrived a few hours earlier.
Son, while you prepared and packed this month for yesterday’s trip to college, i’ve been honing a few Glacier National Park travel and work enhancements.
Why?
Odds are high i will be working and hiking solo for five weeks.
While the general public is warned to never hike alone, more experienced Glacier National Park hikers can manage well on their own.
Having a satellite GPS tracking and texting device provides a level of reassurance should i be in need of emergency-type help.
In addition, carrying two cans of bear spray will be the new normal.
The five weeks already spent in Glacier this Summer have accelerated an appreciation for, and a confidence with, the bigger wild animals – bears, rams, goats.
Wisdom is not only for business and parenting, but also for the wilderness.
PS. Interestingly enough, everything i’ve learned about Mountain Lions recommends fighting back as the primary defense. Mountain Lions are predatory. The other big animals are not.
