Bad news and good news

iPhone setup
Last night.

Late yesterday a couple of homeowner issues sprung up that are making today more challenging than anticipated.

That’s the “bad” news.

The “good” news is that i have 24 hours to try to rectify before leaving.

i imagine how challenging this would be if i was trying to do it from 2,500 miles away with no wifi or cell signal.

And by no access, i mean literally none – only occasional opportunities before and after the daylight hours.

Additionally, these are first-world issues.

One of the final things we did last night was watching how easy it is to set-up an iPhone X.

Dear Son, your growth in the past 30 days

mother and son
In Church a few days ago on Mother’s Day.

Dear Son, your growth in the past 30 days has risen above your average rate.

Biking round trip to school a couple nights ago to make up for a weather-related obstacle you had that morning.

Another day this week, you chose to ride home with a storm approaching, knowing you’d probably stop and have to wait it out. You trusted yourself to read the weather conditions and anticipate your shelter options.

You’ve been thinking hard about the pros and cons for your two Summer job options. One option is traditional, the other is not. Both come with great risks.

Note: The way i grew up and experienced Summer jobs is a limited view of how our Son should do it. There are dozens of other ways that less fortunate and more fortunate teens spent their Summers preparing for life.

Be openminded.

Use your vision of the future to help guide you now.

We needed last night’s car ride

American Idol 2018
American Idol 2018, last night, Maddie sang “The Bare Necessities”.

American Idol 2018
Last night was the Disney episode. Katy Perry as Snow White.

We needed last night’s car ride to sort through a couple things.

You didn’t want to come along because it only takes one person to go get the Olive Garden order.

You were thinking it was an inconvenience.

i get it.

The fact we had to drive to an additional 35 minutes round trip out of our way was a gift – the gift of time.

When this goes live, will the two of you be actively engaged in physical activity?

One (not you) knows the long-term effects of a sedentary life.

The other (you) cannot yet comprehend the compound interest of a lifetime of smart and consistent wellness habits.

Being decently organized at home helps you find the time you need to move, rest, and eat well.

MAK A DIF?

vanity plate
At a red light coming home from Church yesterday. Make a difference?

This is what can happen when we allow life-balance to take a back seat.

The reasons we “allow” this to happen are infinite.

Here’s an important insight…

Even executive leadership coaches are not immune from life’s constant attack on our peace and contentment.

So the experts, the role models, the gurus – why aren’t they following their own advice?

Be careful.

Stay focused.

Life has five big choices.

Two home truths and a lie

Omni Louisville
Brand new Omni. Spectacular. This is the Library. It also has a bowling alley. Honest.

Omni Louisville
Normally don’t post hotel room photos, but a brand new room is special and rare.

Need an icebreaker for a group?

Two home truths and a lie.

Ask your audience to think of two of their biggest home or personal accomplishments, milestones, or freakish encounters.

Maybe they have 11 dogs and cats living in their house.

Perhaps their home is powered 100% by renewable energy.

Then ask them to create an outrageous “lie” that competes with their two lifetime achievements.

The goal is to stump the others at their table, or their partner if they’re in pairs.
