It's A Short List

It's A Short List

How Good Is Your Math?

How Good Is Your Math?

What Really Matters?

What Really Matters?

OK, so I’m on vacation, dividing time between the annual writer’s retreat and home.

What does it mean when we say, “I’m on vacation“?

Yes, some might say, “You need to relax more”.

Not gonna disagree.

I might come back with a, “You need to exercise more”.

Or, “You need to think about your financial future more”.

Or even, “You need to be crystal clear with your spiritual self-confidence”.

When’s your funeral?

When the big bad wolf comes knocking on your door?

Hope your “house” is made of brick.

Feeling Great? Feeling Great!

Suomi?

Suomi?

Can’t put our finger on things sometimes, can we? Stuff happens. Some good. Some not so good. Why? Who knows.

This particular Saturday (today) has been very productive, personally and professionally. Why? Who knows.

It’s funny how our physical health has nice ripples to the other dimensions in Life’s Big Choices. I’m leaning that way.

My running has been getting better, and foot pain has been getting less. I know, who cares? Guess I could say the same thing about Seth Godin’s recent post, “The Wrapper Matters“.

An Olympian at age 50?

An Olympian at age 50?

December 21, 2009.  Can you believe it? Ten days until 2010 begins. A few questions we may consider asking ourselves.

Where did the time go?

Am I happy with what happened this past year?

Did I do what I said i was going to?

Did I do something every day that scared me?

Did I pray every day for my Family, Friends, and especially to all those people less fortunate?

Did I act in accordance with my loftiest thoughts?

Did I help make the world a little better place to live?

Did I strive for balance in life’s big four – Mind, Body, Spirit, Money?

Do I have a plan for 2010?

It All Comes Down to This

With so much to say, where does a person start?  Well, if you’re a runner, it’s easy, you start at the starting line.  But if you’re not a runner and you’re several decades into your life and your job or career, then what?

Then maybe start here, in Lane 8:

There, I said it. Hope this doesn’t scare anyone off. It is what it is.

Cool App

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009

Recently discovered how to easily schedule blog posts for future dates.

This week has been dedicated to experimenting with the newly found app.  It’s embarrassingly easy.  Should have figured this out long ago, but instead, only this past weekend.

On one blog, I’ve scheduled the next ten daily blog posts.  Others (5 total) a few days ahead, and a couple just a day in advance.

I still write five every morning; however, I’m writing a few “buffer blog posts”, for those days and weeks when the unexpected happens.

Dream big and do something great.  Even if it’s a “small” great, like making a sad or lonely person smile.

West Orange Times

Saturday, November 21st, 2009

What motivates and inspires people to take action?  Words, and phrases.

Here a few from last Thursday’s West Orange Times.  Our small town newspaper is mailed once each week.  There was a center page section full (13 total) of ads.

  • Building Life-Changing Christian Relationships (Church)
  • WELLTRAX (Wellness Center)
  • Reinvent Yourself! (Education)
  • your next level (advertising)
  • Elevate Your Image (advertising)
  • Strengthen Your Brand (advertising)

Phrases and words have some sort of magical power to travel to the part of our brain that says, “You can do better.”

With New Year’s Eve six weeks away, people begin asking, “What can I do better?”

What is one of the craziest , or perhaps high impact New Year’s Resolutions you’ve ever made?

Final Answer

Thursday, November 19th, 2009

The greatest human fears:

  1. Public Speaking
  2. Death

The list goes on, however, these are generally accepted as the top two.

Audaciously, I submit that the greatest human fear is the fear of living.

Think about that one and call me crazy.

Bring It On

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

Today.  This morning.  Right now.  Bring it on.

What does that mean? Who am I talking to?

First and foremost, I’m talking to myself.  Journaling is a world-class way to self-awareness.

Self-awareness is the most important step towards self-improvement.

My (life) pace does not lend itself to either.

Which is why I write five blogs every day.

What was once impossible, is now business as usual.

No, It’s Not!

Everything can’t be important. Period.  It can’t be.

What’s a person to do?  I mean, to sort through it all and come out with a prioritized list?

Here’s what I did:

  • Sorted to four big life choices
  • Prioritized top ten lists for the big four
  • Work desperately hard every day
  • Exercise focus & discipline
  • Remember my purpose in life

While it ain’t perfect, it is light years ahead of my old daily structure. Life is a journey.

Everything Is Important

Seems like it.  Doesn’t it?

Was recently viewing a live streaming feed on WordPress.  WordPress hosts WordCamp

Was reminded that social media, and blogging in particular, is a phenomenon.

Being 50 and embracing blogging and social media, while raising a son (9), is an interesting place to be in cyberspace, in a rapidly changing web 2.0 world.

While still trying to figure it out, everything points to communicating with others, and offering something that others want.

What do people want?  Not sure exactly.  Meanwhile though, I’ll continue to be guided by a heart-felt desire to make a difference in our world.

PS.  I realize my path, style, whatever you want to call it, may be good and it may also not be good.  Rather try and fail than not try. Ya with me?
