The Tree Gets It

The Tree Gets It

We can not fully begin to live until we are fully prepared to die.

Once you figure out what this means, you’re life will become extraordinary.

But not until then.

Mid Life Celebration, LLC

Ever make a plan or goal, and find yourself at a place one year later, and wonder where the time has gone?

And when you find yourself there one year later, do you celebrate your amazing accomplishment, or do you look back and realize that there was no progress whatsoever?

About one year ago, I looked back on 2008, and realized that I had failed.

Now, looking back at 2009, it’s time to celebrate.

The most amazing phenomenon?

What A Young Man Should Know

Lifelong Love of Learning

Lifelong Love of Learning

“What should a young male of 21 know, and what should he be able to do?

There are no conclusive answers to those questions, but they are certainly worth asking.

A young man should know how this country is run and how it got that way.

He should know the Federalist Papers and de Tocqueville, and he should know recent world history. If he does not know what has been tried in the past, he cannot very well avoid those pitfalls as they come up in the future.

A young man should be computer literate and, moreover, should know Hemingway from James Joyce. He should know how to drive a car well–such as is not covered in Driver’s Ed.

He should know how to fly a light airplane. He should know how to shoot well. He should know elementary geography, both worldwide and local. He should have a cursory knowledge of both zoology and botany. He should know the fundamentals of agriculture and corporate economy.

He should be well qualified in armed combat, boxing, wrestling and judo, or its equivalent.

He should know how to manage a motorcycle.

He should be comfortable in at least one foreign language, more if appropriate to his background. He should be familiar with remedial medicine.

These things should be accomplished before a son leaves his father’s household.”   — Col. Jeff Cooper

What A Human Should Be Able To Do

Diversify?

Diversify?

“A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.”Robert Heinlein

Simple Is As Simple Does

Are You Paying Attention?

Are You Paying Attention?

Simple is elusive.

Focus is elusive.

Determination is elusive.

Humility is elusive.

Unless your life purpose is clear.

Reading yesterday’s post had me question my humility.  You read it and you saw “I did”.

The thing you should understand (in case you don’t) is that there are many people who can tell you what should be done and why, but they themselves can not – not nearly to the extent they preach.

It seemed to me, there was an opportunity for a common man (perhaps a Father) to step up and try it differently.

A Toast To Yesterday

A Toast To Yesterday

Did you do it yesterday?

Huh?

Exactly.

Did you do all the things from yesterday’s post?

I did.  This Russian blog validates it (second paragraph). Sheer serendipity.

Who's Your Role Model?

Do you have a great role model?

Above all else, be an excellent role model.

The Dog That Stole Jesus’ Sandal

One Final Walk on Feb. 13, 2010

Do you day dream?

I mean sometimes, do you day dream so big that it surprises you?

Yesterday, I had a daydream that our beloved Canine Son Carter, an 11-year old Yellow Lab stole one of Jesus’ sandals.

We laid Carter to rest yesterday morning, Valentine’s Day.

It was a glorious moment when the image of Carter meeting Jesus and licking Jesus’ face so much with affectionate kisses that Jesus finally had to laugh and say, “OK Carter, enough, that’s enough already.”

And Carter obeyed. But quickly grabbed one of Jesus’ sandals and began his favorite game – keep away.

Dream big today, no matter your circumstance. Try not to let any thing or any one deprive you of your most glorious day dream.

Battle At Kruger

Sunday, February 14th, 2010

This You Tube video has nearly 50 million views which speaks for itself. It’s a little slow at first, and I almost clicked away and moved on, but didn’t.  It has strong subliminal meaning to our lives as humans – this battle between Lions, Water Buffalo and Crocodiles. The end will surprise you.
